We had a fun but late night of World Cup watching (Spain VS Portugal, funnily enough) which ended in a draw with mixed emotions (don't tell the Spanish we currently have 3 Portuguese soccer jerseys in our luggage!). So the next morning was a bit of a late start. We hit the Sevilla streets and stopped for some coffee, orange juice and tostada breakfast.
Before we knew it, it was already midday and we headed back to the Irish pub to watch the Socceroos play France. It was near empty this time, so a lot more spacious, and it was a pretty exciting game and the Aussies did us proud (despite the other patrons supporting France - que?!)
Just after the game, this happened...
So we took a short stroll and stumbled across a place with Cava in its name. This brought back all kinds of memories of cava in spain in 2012, so we pulled in. It was great, with an awesome tapas menu that included two of my favourite things - ceviche and steak tartar. Yum!!
When paying la cuenta, the waiter asked where we were from, and after hearing we were from Australia he exclaimed "Very hot!". We assured him here was very hot also, but he laughed and said "Now just small hot, later in summer, much bigger hot" . Pheweeee!
A light lunch was perfect, followed by chill time (literally) back at the apartment from the 38 degree heat, that only increases until 6 or 7 in the evening.
So once the temp finally dipped to low-mid 30s, we were brave enough to head out into the heat again! And I had my first paella and sangria of the trip! Pretty good too... When we got home I went onto the rooftop to take in the beautiful view up there. Seville is wonderful.
With Willow on spanish time and sleeping in so late these mornings, I actually set an alarm to wake up at 8am. We wanted to get to the Alcazar early to avoid long queues. We set off for the Alcazar, a mere 12 min walk from us on Google, at 9:30, hoping to beat the crowds.
Anyway, we finally found the entrance, and the lengthy queue moved quickly. , we made it! Once inside the Alcazar, it was such a large landscape of beautiful gardens that you felt you had it to yourself half the time! It was very beautiful and peaceful, and I had the Game of Thrones themesong in my head the whole time.
After a pleasant couple of hours, it was starting to heat up again so we strolled through the narrow cobbled street lanes of Barrio Santa Cruz, the old Jewish quarter, and came to a tap as bar recommended by the Air BnB host. Yum.
After some chill time at the apartment and with Willow refusing to have a day nap, we set out into the heat again when Willow immediately fell asleep haha. So back to the cava bar nearby for some more cava, steak tartar, and I had a delicious strawberry gazpacho. Last time in Spain we tried watermelon gazpacho and both are delicious.
By this time it was evening and still stinking hot so we had a quiet night in the apartment, for our last night in Seville which we absolutely loved. I feel like it has all the best things of the other cities I love in Spain (except for no beach) . I'd come back in a heartbeat.
The next day was largely a travel day, getting from Seville up to Cudillero on the Costa Verde in the north of Spain. We had to check out of the Air BnB at 11am so Ryan took our big bags to the main bus station for storage and then we went back to Alameda de Hercules for brunch and some playground time. It's a lovely area - a bit like a mini Las Ramblas but with more locals than tourists.
It was heating up so we just ended up catching the bus with all our luggage to the airport, but found out en route that our flight was delayed by about an hour and a half. Thank God for the tablet keeping Willow entertained!!
So after a boring afternoon, we finally got on the flight and arrived at beautiful Cudillero and met up with our mate Luke!! We had a very late but delicious seafood dinner, then finally got Willow to sleep in bed at about midnight!! She is totally on spanish time these days 😴

With Ryan in charge of WiFi and thus maps, we set off. We were definitely in and near the direction of the Alcazar, but we kept circling around and around not knowing where to enter. Ryan ain't the best at maps! But it was made worse by zero signage for us tourists.
