Full bellies

We woke to more overcast skies on our last day in Lisbon, but so long as it wasn't pouring we would be fine. After Ryan's coffee and pastel di nata ritual, we set off towards Rossio Square again to see if the line for the elevador de Santa Justa (basically a lookout from some old ruins) was any shorter than the day before, but no, it was still going to be a 90 minute wait. No one wants to do that, especially with a 1 year old. And looking at it from below, it wasn't exactly pram friendly.

So we continued our casual stroll around the streets and boulevards of Lisbon, though various squares and past grandiose monuments. And ended up down at the river again, looking over at their massive statue of Jesus Christ which rivals Rio's. Lisbon has such a beautiful mix of wide open spaces in between small higgledy piggledy cobbled lanes.

We walked over to the colourful Alfama district and stopped for an espresso and pastel di nata, but it suddenly dropped a few degrees and it looked like some rain was on its way, so we started to make our way back to the Time Out market so that we could shelter from any rain but also try more of their glorious food.

It was just before midday so was a lot less chaotic than when we arrived the previous day. And bless her cotton socks, Willow fell asleep as soon as we arrived! I was tossing up between going back to the tartaria or trying some sashimi, but Ryan kindly offered to get the beef tartare so I went for salmon ceviche. Yum!!

Because this was our last lunch in Lisbon, and despite this market being Sydney prices, Ryan got a second dish of pork belly with crackling to accompany his beef tartare. Both were amazing. Oink!!

After some chill time at the apartment out of the drizzle, we headed to some place the waiter from dinner the night before recommended that served Brazilian dishes, so after hiking the hills in drizzle it was a shame to see it full of locals ;) Ryan ducked in and got some takeaway snack, which was a dish he slaved over making himself years ago when we hosted a Brazilian dinner party.
So back down the hill, closer to the restaurants near our place, we found a cosy little restaurant where I had a massive tuna steak, nicely rare, and ryan had a pork and clams dish. Lisbon really outdid itself with the food! Oink!
