Classes and cocktails

On Monday registration for the HP classes was at 8:30am so I went down around 7:30am for the buffet breakfast and met the rest of the JDS buddies that were on the course, Michael, Simon and Warren. I was happy that like in Thailand there was an "omelette man" here in KL. This is a guy that will cook omelettes or whatever eggs you want for breakfast, I always get omelettes. I also had my first taste of "beef bacon". Being a predominately Muslim country pork is pretty much nonexistent unless you go to a Chinese joint, so at breakfast you get beef bacon and chicken sausages.

After classes there was a cocktail party by to get to know other people who were on the training with you. It died down pretty quickly after the free drinks ran out at 8pm. I think a lot of people were still tired from the flights as most people I talked to had flown in on Sunday or some even that morning. I retired soon after finishing my last beer as well.

Once the morning session of Tuesday's classes was completed and we adjourned for lunch I set out to Petronas Twin towers in search of a Malay SIM card. I found a local telco called Maxim after a recommendation from my colleague Michael who had successfully gotten one from there already. I charged out to try to get there and back before lunch break ended. Going out in the middle of a 34 degree day with KL humidity in jeans is a bad idea. Finally I got to the Maxim shop in the lovely A/C and asked for a SIM. The helpful staff asked "have you got a passport?" To which I replied "god-fugging-dammit". Back I go empty handed through the mugginess.

After class I changed into some shorts with passport in hand and successfully purchased a SIM with about 1.5gig of datas for 48 of the Malay Ringits which was about $16. Warren's wife Ping said she knew a good place we could get some local food and it was in air conditioning. Michael and I had no problem with that so we all headed out.

We walked to this place called Lot 10 in the Bukit Bintang area. (I found out later on from some Indonesian guys in the class that "bintang" also means star(s) besides being a beer brand and area in KL.) Lot 10 was a Malay-Chinese food court which had a bunch of different restaurants selling all kinds of dishes for around 15-20 MYR. I got some hainanese chicken rice and sat down to eat. Michael soon came back with some char kway teow. I was hanging for some since I had arrived in Malaysia and immediately got a plate after I finished the chicken rice.
